Burj Khalifa: The world’s Highest tower

Last Updated: 19 November 2023By

In the fiery heart of the desert, where golden sand mingles with the promise of the infinite sky, a saga of determination and daring comes to life. This is the story of the Burj Khalifa, a majestic edifice whose budget and construction time depict a tale of boundless ambition.

In the beginning, visionaries had dreams of elevation and daring. But behind every great project lies a raw reality, a reality of colossal figures and immeasurable effort. The Burj Khalifa was no exception.

The budget for this titanic undertaking was as colossal as its ambition. Billions of dollars were needed to build this marvel. Every penny spent was an investment in the future, a declaration of faith in human greatness and ingenuity.

The foundations of an emblematic tower

The construction time was also a monumental challenge. The foundations for this skyscraper began to be laid in 2004. However, the road to the heavens was not an easy one. Every step required precision, expertise and infinite patience. For almost six years, thousands of workers tackled this Herculean task, a harmonious dance between art and science to raise a tower to unprecedented heights.
The team dedicated to this colossal project was made up of dedicated individuals, brilliant engineers, visionary architects and hard workers. Their shared mission was to bring this bold vision to life, whatever the challenges and obstacles encountered along the way.
Every day, the construction site was the scene of a symphony of progress. Concrete columns rose, steel beams intertwined, and each assembled element brought the Burj Khalifa a little closer to the sky.

A path to the clouds finally built

In January 2010, this monument reached its apogee, rising to a dizzying height of over 828 metres. The inauguration was a celebration of human ingenuity, a testament to perseverance in the face of the immensity of the desert.
Today, the Burj Khalifa stands like a beacon in the desert, a marvel of engineering and vision. Its history is a testament not only to human greatness, but also to the power of determination in the face of adversity.
The colossal budget and extended construction period of the Burj Khalifa reveal the patience, vision and commitment required to turn a dream into reality, a reality that continues to inspire minds across the ages.

Burj Khalifa: An illustration of human ingenuity

The majestic Burj Khalifa, standing proudly in Dubai, rises like a beacon of grandeur and sophistication, a modernist marvel in a striking urban landscape.

As the sun begins its descent behind the golden dunes, the silhouette of the Burj Khalifa is silhouetted against the orange sky, its slender curves sparkling with metallic reflections. Every centimetre of its structure reaches dizzying heights, soaring above the surrounding skyscrapers with unrivalled grace.

The tower’s shimmering glass captures the changing hues of the sky, reflecting the warm hues of the day that gradually give way to the soft light of the stars. The building seems to dance with the passage of time, from day to night, illuminating the night horizon with its own dazzling light. From the top of this architectural marvel, the view stretches as far as the eye can see, offering a breathtaking panorama of the bustling city of Dubai. The shimmering street lights seem minuscule from this lofty vantage point, while the cars look like tiny fireflies moving in a choreographed urban pattern.

Architecture worthy of a “Artwork”

Inside, the atmosphere is just as captivating. The elegantly designed interiors exude luxury and refinement. The clean lines and top-of-the-range materials are a testament to architectural expertise and attention to detail. Visitors stroll through a world where art and engineering blend harmoniously, creating a spellbinding experience.
Each floor of the Burj Khalifa tells a story, a fusion of modern innovation and cultural heritage. Sculptures, works of art and architectural details captivate the mind, inviting everyone to explore and marvel at this human achievement. But it’s when night falls that the Burj Khalifa reveals its most dazzling brilliance. Its façades are illuminated by a play of lights, metamorphosing into a living canvas of vibrant colours and hypnotic patterns. A night-time spectacle that transports spectators into a world of enchantment and magic, capturing the very essence of elegance and splendour.

The Burj Khalifa, a monument that transcends conventional architecture to become a living work of art, remains an undeniable icon of human genius and visionary grandeur. It embodies beauty, daring and elegance, defying the limits of imagination and continuing to inspire admiration and wonder around the world.

9 things you can do at Burj Khalifa

1. “At The Top” Observation Deck

The Burj Khalifa’s At The Top observation deck offers an unrivalled experience on the 124th and 125th floors, allowing visitors to admire the city from breathtaking heights of 452 and 456 metres above sea level.
The 124th floor is equipped with state-of-the-art telescopes that enhance the view, while the 125th floor offers the largest open space in the building, with spectacular panoramic views of the city. Visitors can enjoy this experience without time constraints and take photos and videos at their leisure.

2. Skydive

If you’re looking for excitement and adrenaline rushes, the Burj Khalifa offers an exceptional opportunity to skydive.

Shortly after its inauguration, a few people entered the tower as tourists and practised parachuting without authorisation. However, parachuting has been authorised for some time, but it is compulsory to strictly observe the safety rules.

3. SKY Luxury Lounge

The SKY luxury lounge, located on the 148th floor of the Burj Khalifa, inaugurated in 2010 as the world’s highest observation deck, offers guided tours that can be scheduled on specific days and times to manage daily visitors. Despite the short duration of the tour (30 minutes), the reduced crowds allow for a more immersive experience, offering breathtaking views of the Iranian coastline at low tide and breathtaking sunsets.

4. At.mosphere the world’s highest restaurant

Experience exquisite European cuisine, including highly recommended dishes such as wagyu sirloin steaks, oysters and foie gras at this wonderful Dubai restaurant, which offers a choice of snacks, light lunches and luxurious dinners. For a breathtaking culinary experience amidst the clouds, remember to book in advance, especially at sunset, the busiest time of the day, to secure a table and take in the breathtaking views of the city skyline and the Arabian Gulf. What’s more, New Year’s Eve is the occasion for an unrivalled fireworks display, making it the perfect time to visit this remarkable place.

5. The lifts

At Burj Khalifa, after a brief wait on arrival, the 57 lifts take visitors up at speeds of 10 metres per second, reaching 35 kilometres per hour, while displaying interactive LCD screens and projecting images of world landmarks that gradually increase in height as the lift ascends, making it an exhilarating and unmissable experience in Dubai.

6. Dubai Mall

Although the mall itself is not located in the Burj Khalifa, it is essential to mention it because access to the skyscraper requires passing through this renowned shopping centre. Established at the end of 2008, the mall boasts over 1,200 shops and is linked to the Burj Khalifa Dubai 1 metro station.
Within the centre, a strikingly designed fountain, resembling a descending diver, creates an impressive water effect. In addition, a full-size ice rink hosts hockey matches while remaining accessible to the public.

7. Armani Hotel

The first 39 floors of the Burj Khalifa are home to the first Armani-branded hotel, designed by the famous designer Giorgio Armani. In this opulent establishment, suites ranging in size from 45 to 390 square metres are meticulously soundproofed, air-conditioned and furnished. Some have balconies with breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai Fountain. The largest suites, measuring approximately 390 square metres, feature a lounge area, private bar and dressing room.

8. Have a drink at the highest bar in the world

The new Bar Lounge at Burj Khalifa, rising 575 metres into the sky, is the epitome of luxury and elegance. Spanning three floors between levels 152 and 154, it serves as a bar, lounge and concert venue. The venue features a terrace offering breathtaking views of the city’s sunsets, complemented by Armani hotel services and a varied menu of food and entertainment. The Lounge offers three key experiences :

  • Tea in the clouds: you can sit on the lounge’s plush and comfortable sofas and indulge in their fresh pastries and desserts. These are accompanied by a fine selection of teas and coffees, and a stroll outdoors on the terrace.
  • Bubbly Sundowner: Enjoy a wonderful view of the sunset accompanied by a refreshing drink and gourmet canapés.
  • Cocktails under the stars: Have the ultimate romantic date with live music and DJ, tasting the best cocktails and gourmet canapés.

Access to The Lounge is through the lobby of the Armani Hotel, but if you go to the At The Top observation deck first, there is also entrance through there.

9. The dancing fountains

The fountains, located directly in front of the Burj Khalifa, offer a free and very popular show. To see the show, which lasts around 5 minutes, it is advisable to arrive around 20 minutes early due to the crowds. This captivating show, enhanced by vibrant lights on the water and the Burj Khalifa, is accompanied by music, creating an enchanting atmosphere. For an even more intense and breathtaking experience, it is highly recommended to watch the show from the At The Top Sky observation deck, located inside the skyscraper.
